SF Live Closes Out 2024 Season with Afrolicious and Los Calderones
Free outdoor concert series concludes at the Golden Gate Park Bandshell
San Francisco, CA - October 24, 2024 - SF Live announces that their last show of the 2024 season is with Afrolicious and Los Calderones at the Golden Gate Bandshell on November 9, presented by Boom Boom Room and in partnership with Illuminate and San Francisco Recreation And Parks.

Since May 2024, SF Live has gathered thousands of people to San Francisco’s outdoor plazas and parks. Shows are free to attend, family friendly, and have offered a diverse lineup of artists, ranging from rising indie bands to well-established jazz ensembles and high-energy pop acts. Attendees can expect a unique and dynamic concert experience that showcases the breadth and depth of San Francisco's musical talent. The SF Live concert series has been produced in partnership with Illuminate, San Francisco Parks Alliance, Noise Pop, the Union Square Alliance and Plinth Agency.
Over the past few months, SF Live series concerts have taken place throughout San Francisco at iconic open spaces and locations such as the Golden Gate Bandshell, Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, Union Square Plaza, Civic Center Plaza, Crane Cove Park, Fulton Plaza, and Eagle Plaza.
About the Artists
The Afrolicious live experience is, in a nutshell, a joyous and raucous celebration of life. The Afrolicious sound combines inspiring lyrics, funky bass lines, and a powerful horn section while retaining the soul and feel of classic funk, disco, Latin, and Afrobeat melodies. In their latest single and new album, Afrolicious pushes a timely message: Love Shall Remain! Afrolicious has shared their passion and energy with venues such as the Fillmore in San Francisco, El Rey in Los Angeles, and electrifying festivals such as Red Rocks, Lighting In a Bottle, High Sierra Music Festival, Governor’s Island Ball and Joshua Tree Music Festival amongst many others. The band is also affiliated with a worldwide group of DJs, producers, bands, and labels who produce contemporary soulful dance music inspired by sounds of the African diaspora, including Antibalas, Chico Mann, Nickodemus, DJ Smash, Wonderwheel Recordings, and Subsuel.
Obrayan Calderon is a singer, songwriter, arranger, and trombonist born and raised in Santa Cruz del Norte, Cuba and based in the California Bay Area. At the age of six Calderon’s father gifted him his first instrument, a trumpet. Calderon has studied at respected institutions such as the EVA Juan Pablo Duarte in Güira de Melena, Cuba and The National School of Arts (ENA) in Habana. Obrayan has recorded extensively and toured internationally with major Cuban musicians like songwriter Adalberto Alvarez y su Son, Juan Carlos Alfonzo y su Dan Den, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, Tania Pantoja, Mariana y la Maquinaria, and Jorgito Melodía.
After moving to the U.S. and joining the Bay Area’s music scene, Calderon taught Afro-Cuban music at the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music and toured with Dirtwire, Chucho Valdés, Changüí Majadero, Afrolicious, and Edgardo Cambon. In 2020, he formed his own Latin band now known as Los Calderones. IIn 2023, his single Veneno was recorded and became available on music streaming platforms. His most recent single released in 2024, La Rumba Te Llama reached 61K views on YouTube.
